WERTZ HONORED AT ERIE CRAWFORD CENTRAL LABOR COUNCIL DINNER
Wertz builds momentum in the race for Senate District 49 with help from local union members
Erie, PA — On Wednesday night, Jim Wertz, the Democratic nominee for Pennsylvania Senate District 49, was the honoree and keynote speaker at the Erie Crawford Central Labor Council’s (CLC) annual scholarship award dinner. Wertz received the John David Dever Memorial Award for his “outstanding service, dedication, and leadership in Erie County.” Wertz continues to build momentum in the race and earn the support of unions from across Erie County.
“You can always count on Jim Wertz to defend the union way of life,” said retired PSEA member Sam Talarico in a speech praising Wertz. “He understands the importance of human dignity for all workers and will protect the less powerful and underrepresented, prioritize issues that affect all workers, and will utilize his position, as he always has, to advance the cause of organized labor.”
“I’m humbled to receive the CLC Community Service Award,” said Wertz in his remarks. “We’ve campaigned with Labor for candidates and campaigns, walked the picket lines for APSCUF and others, and tried to contribute as a family and with our friends in ways large and small. So, now as we turn the corner in what I hope to be my best chance to serve Erie, I look forward to the next steps, in solidarity, for each of us and for Erie.”
Wertz continues to rack up labor support and build momentum in the race with endorsements from the American Federation of Teachers PA (AFT), PA State Education Association (PSEA), Roofers Local 210, Firefighters Local 293, Teamsters Local 397 & Joint Council 40, Roofers Local 210, Machinists Local 1211, and the Eastern Atlantic State Regional Council of Carpenters.
A recent poll shows Wertz with a clear path to victory over incumbent Republican Dan Laughlin. The general election will take place on Tuesday, November 5th.
