Voters meet local candidates, sign petitions as election season heats up

The Great Western Pennsylvania Petition and Meet the Candidates event was held Saturday evening.

Voters were encouraged to meet local candidates and sign the petitions of those they wanted to see on their ballots.

Jim Wertz, a state senate candidate for Pennsylvania’s 49th district, hosted the event. He explained the importance of these petitions and why candidates are rallying signatures.

“So these folks travel from county to county, meeting voters, meeting democrats in order to collect those signatures and get enough to get on the ballot,” Wertz said.

While only democrats were allowed to sign the petitions from Saturday night’s event, Wertz emphasized that people from all political parties are encouraged to come and meet potential candidates.
