JIM WERTZ ENDORSED BY AMERICAN FEDERATION OF TEACHERS PENNSYLVANIA
Wertz scores another major endorsement from organized labor as he continues to build momentum in the race for SD-49

Erie, PA — Today, State Senate candidate Jim Wertz announced his endorsement from the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Pennsylvania.

“Funding education is not, in fact, a choice, but a moral imperative. I look forward to continuing to work with you, so that we can partner together and develop long-term, sustainable solutions that are good for Pennsylvania’s children, families, educators, and communities,” wrote AFT Pennsylvania President Arthur G. Steinberg.

“As a longtime educator, it is especially meaningful to receive this endorsement from AFTPA,” said Wertz. “I look forward to working with them to strengthen public education and prepare our children for a brighter future.”

AFT Pennsylvania represents more than 36,000 members in 93 local affiliates throughout the Commonwealth, including teachers and school-related personnel, health care professionals, higher education faculty members and state employees.

Wertz has served as a broadcast journalism teacher at Edinboro University since 2005.

This is yet another major endorsement as Wertz continues to build a groundswell of support in Erie County. He recently received endorsements from the Erie City Council president and other members, the Regional Council of Carpenters, County Councilmen Terry ScutellaChris Drexel and Rock Copeland, former Erie Mayor Joyce Savocchio, and a group of current and former Erie County Sheriffs.

Wertz has raised over $100k in the race for Senate District 49.

The Democratic Primary for Senate District 49 and other races up and down the ballot will take place on Tuesday, April 23.
